The ISADD Intensive Two-Week Start-Up for Remote and Overseas Clients

What is it?

The Intensive Start-Up Program is designed for families from remote areas, interstate or overseas who wish to have their child undertake an ABA/DTT (Applied Behaviour Analysis/Discrete Trial Training) program, but do not have local access to ongoing professional support. It provides a detailed program for the child to follow, trains the parents in delivery of DTT, and "kick starts" the program for the family. Included in the program, which is conducted in Perth, Western Australia, are:

Initial Assessment and exit review with ISADD psychologist

Initial ABA/DTT Training Workshops (2) for parents.

Parent DTT training with ISADD program manager/case manager or advanced therapist.

Therapy for the child in conjunction with the Parent Training.

What happens during an Intensive Start-Up Program?

The intensive program starts with an assessment by an ISADD psychologist to determine your child's precise needs. Ideally, parents should also attend the first ABA/DTT Initial Training Workshop before the program commences. A Program Manager and/or Case Manager and/or Advanced Therapist is then assigned to write the program and work with you and your child, giving many hours of Discrete Trial Training and also refining your skills in doing the DTT yourself. During the intensive program, it is expected that you would be giving several hours of therapy by yourself each day. Several review sessions (usually four x 2 hours) are held at intervals with Program Manager or Psychologist to review progress and plan the ongoing program after you return home.

What happens after the program?

Following the program, ongoing support is offered through telephone consultation, faxes or emails. Parents can also send videos of their child undergoing therapy for program update suggestions, problem solving, etc.

If within the family's budget, occasional visits to the place of residence may be possible, during such visits, local personnel can be provided with training, the child's progress reviewed, and the program revised. Alternatively, reviews can be arranged in Perth (Aust.), Jakarta (Indonesia), Singapore or Wellington (New Zealand).
